We took the kids out to the building this afternoon. They got a kick out of going up the stairs from the basement to the first floor. Then their attention turned to playing in the dirt piles.
A ton of dirt has been moved, mainly for backfilling around the exterior of the basement walls. Now that the piles are gone, I can get a sense of how big the front yard will be, and it at least appears larger now. I'm sure we will still end up whacking some of the trees down, or at least thinning some of them out over time. It'll give me a good excuse to buy that chainsaw!
The footers for the garage and porch have been poured, as well as the footers for the front bedroom that juts out in front.
The kids wanted to mark on the first floor where their rooms were going to be, so luckily there were some Sharpee markers in the car.
The temperature was around 60, give or take, and it was a beautiful day to get out. I'm surprised we didn't run into the builder or any of the workers, but I think the next step is some sort of brick on the foundation. After that is an inspection, then the first draw from the bank. I'm sure our builder is looking forward to that day! Aside from the initial money we gave him at the beginning after we closed on the old house, he has been footing the bill so far.
