So I have been peering through some price quotes over the last 2 days or so, namely the ones for the countertops and the bathroom fixtures.
The countertops we came in slightly under the original estimate, which is all well and good (actually one of the few places so far). The quote is a little confusing because it lists sinks--which the company also provides--but they are not factored into the price. At initial glance, it looks like it is, but after looking at the price of a remnant for one of the boy's sinks, clearly the sink is not included.
The quote for the bathroom fixtures is infinitely more complicated. We got a pdf copy, and I like to work in Excel (or GoogleDocs this time) so I laboriously transferred each item line by line into a spreadsheet. It lists the amounts, so I compared online to a few places. I may pick up a few faucets here and there on my own, which will save some money. We are ditching the body sprays in the master bath, which is not something either of us really wanted anyway. There is already some plumbing for them, but nothing that is needed for shower use. Between getting a few fixtures on the side and cutting out the body sprays, we'll save a little over $600.
I also discovered that the fixture place did not account for any sinks in the master bath (we have two), nor either sink for the boys' bathrooms. So now we have to pick out 4 more sinks. Well, technically two sinks twice, but the point is we have to pick out more stuff. Yay.
This is where the frustration continues as well. The sinks are a very important part for the countertops. If I had not looked at the quote from the fixture place, would the countertops have been delayed? I do not like their undermount sinks, so would we have been forced to go with those for the sake of timeliness?
Regardless, I am still lined up to talk to the tile guy on Friday with Rusty. The net gain from all that is that I will know how much tile to buy. Dawn and I stopped by Lowe's this past Tuesday evening and have nearly all the tile picked out. There are a couple of areas (inside the shower, for example) that we will need to look elsewhere. But overall I think we mostly agree on what was picked out.
